Locals Dig In

Last weekend, I held up a pop-up table at Centre for their second installment of The Locals: A Homegrown Apparel & Accessory Trunk Show. I was among good company with brands like Fur Face Boy, Fresh Kaufee, Loyal KNG, Dopey the Bear, Gris Apparel, Azimo, Word of Mouth, Sleepy Dan, and many, many more (about 20 of us at least). All of us were on point, showing our city what independent brands can do with focus and style…and team work.

This Weekend: Meet some of the Finest

Be a part of something this weekend.

I frequently get comments from out-of-towners about how close-knit and supportive the Dallas, TX independent apparel brands are with one another. People from around the U.S. have asked me how we make “that” happen – “that” being the positive, family-like approach we have within our creative indie scene. When I started, well-established brands like Fur Face Boy and Unkommon Kolor never shooed me away. Through cultivating organic relationships with some of the smartest mentors in my city, from the beginning I was able to strongly root my brand in a non-competitive manner. This weekend, I’ll continue to enrich my brand and I’ll be doing it alongside some of those very mentors, as well as with some new upstarts.

Thanks to Centre – a boutique in Dallas that opens the doors for makers, dreamers, and believers – The Locals event will have its 2nd run on Saturday, June 23rd from 12pm-8pm.

Last year, The Locals had its introductory run and the turn-out was great. I had released the Spring+Summer Series there and the support from the community gave the line a great jump start on the season. This time around, I’ll have a few SUPER limited items as well as some tiny Goodies for you to stick in your pocket, on your shirt, or wherever suites you best.

I’ll also have only a couple of THE Locals t-shirts left (the collaborative exclusive with Kill Hubris), so if you wanted one and never had the opportunity to snag one, now is your chance!

Get there early, as all my items are limited edition and I do NOT re-run my styles. Chat me up and see what I’ve got planned next… See you out there!

Oh, Austin

This time last week, I was on my way to Austin, TX for a day job business trip. Every once in a while, the design team at work and I take a trip a few hours south of Dallas to go vintage shopping and get inspired. We stayed at Hotel San Jose off of South Congress, a perfect pivotal point for driving & walking around (yes, even in my current condition of a boot & crutches from the skateboarding accident).

Here’s some images from the trip. Enjoy (and if you live in DFW and haven’t been to Austin before…I hope this encourages the easy visit)!

Phidias Gold sighting!

Bombed for Central Track a little while I was on my walks.

Benny Gold sighting!

Don’t know if that’s a connection to Grits Apparel, but nice sighting either way.

This sticker has been on this doggy bag dispenser for two years now. If you ever sight this in Austin, send me a photo for some free stickers!

SEKT sighting! Dallas, represent.

The hotel was pretty swanky and very relaxing… Continue reading

Centre Presents The Locals (pt. 2)

Next Saturday, June 23rd, Dallas streetwear boutique Centre will host their second installment of The Locals. Last year, The Good Child was a part of The Locals along other name-worthy brands like Loyal KNG, Unkommon Kolor, Fresh Kaufee, Nerdy Fresh, and more. The Locals event is meant to showcase some of Dallas-Fort Worth’s best designer talent, giving brands the opportunity to mingle with fans, possible new supporters & wholesale clients, as well as other brands.

Make sure you stop by! The event will run from noon to 8pm. Support (cop that tee or tank you’ve been eyeing) and engage with the young professionals in your neighborhood. I’m sure there will be a live DJ and some snacks as usual. Centre never disappoints.
