This Weekend: Meet some of the Finest

Be a part of something this weekend.

I frequently get comments from out-of-towners about how close-knit and supportive the Dallas, TX independent apparel brands are with one another. People from around the U.S. have asked me how we make “that” happen – “that” being the positive, family-like approach we have within our creative indie scene. When I started, well-established brands like Fur Face Boy and Unkommon Kolor never shooed me away. Through cultivating organic relationships with some of the smartest mentors in my city, from the beginning I was able to strongly root my brand in a non-competitive manner. This weekend, I’ll continue to enrich my brand and I’ll be doing it alongside some of those very mentors, as well as with some new upstarts.

Thanks to Centre – a boutique in Dallas that opens the doors for makers, dreamers, and believers – The Locals event will have its 2nd run on Saturday, June 23rd from 12pm-8pm.

Last year, The Locals had its introductory run and the turn-out was great. I had released the Spring+Summer Series there and the support from the community gave the line a great jump start on the season. This time around, I’ll have a few SUPER limited items as well as some tiny Goodies for you to stick in your pocket, on your shirt, or wherever suites you best.

I’ll also have only a couple of THE Locals t-shirts left (the collaborative exclusive with Kill Hubris), so if you wanted one and never had the opportunity to snag one, now is your chance!

Get there early, as all my items are limited edition and I do NOT re-run my styles. Chat me up and see what I’ve got planned next… See you out there!

Quiet Birthday Adventure

Yesterday, to quietly celebrate my birthday, I took myself deep into Dallas for a little sight-seeing. I had heard (and I am sure you have by now) about Shepard Fairey being in town and working on a few public murals this week, so I set out to find at least one or two.

UNKO x FFB at Centre

Yesterday, I dropped in at Centre, (my favorite boutique in Dallas, TX), to visit some of the most amazing locals in my city – Unkommon Kolor and Fur Face Boy. Unkommon Kolor and Fur Face Boy have been running their independent brands for about 3-4 years now and yesterday they released their first collaboration together.

It was dope to see the two brands doing it big for our city. It was also really Good hanging out and chatting with FFV (Fur Face Vy), other local brand owners (Sleepy DanHIJ Clothing, Loyal KNG) the Centre crew (mainly Kiddrae254), and local musicians (DJ SoberBlue and Picnictyme). Check out a few iPhone shots from the event, as well as some looks of Centre (and Atama), below:

The Locals – Recap!

I spent my time yesterday with a handful of local brands from around the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Thanks to Philip, Hance, and everybody at Centre, all of us were on major display outside of the shop at Mockingbird Station for The Locals. The event was rain or shine – and although it was incredibly humid, it stayed clear of rain for us!

Some of the brands on display included Fresh Kaufee, Loyal KNG, Unkommon Kolor, HIJ Clothing, Nerdy Fresh, Friends & Anarchists, Matrimoney, Do Celf, Dopey the Bear, and Azimo. A lot of people stopped by the event and even more stuck around for hours! Magnificent Beard dropped in, Vynsie and Jully of We Are 1976 made it, Sleepy Dan was doing his thing, I finally met face-to-face with some great minds I follow on Twitter, and I even ran into two people from my Day Job! The most significant appearances, however, were a few repeat customers and some people I had met a looong time ago at the Johnny Cupcakes stop at We Are 1976! SO RAD! Check out all of these rad people and experiences below!

Atama’s Dunny Azteca II Release

Last night, despite the freezing cold (unusual for Dallas), I attended Atama‘s Dunny Azteca II Release/Trading Party. As soon as I got upstairs, (Atama is the colorful upstairs space in Centre), I saw a few cases set up for buying. I also was greeted by Josh Romero, the manager for Atama and pretty rad guy all around.

The shop still had a few Show Me the Munny t-shirts from the incredible custom Munny show back in December. Did you cop one?

Now, let’s take a look at some of the Dunny Azteca II series!

My friend and day job co-worker, Design By Proxy, and I were the first purchases!

He got doubles of the Dunny Azteca picture just above (on top of the semi-truck). I got the one just below…

The purchase that followed mine made a shame outta me…

This kid, Austin, walked up and bought an entire case!

First one out of the box!

Austin was the coolest little man I’d ever met. He even traded Design By Proxy for one of his doubles!

Design By Proxy was looking for one of those 2Tone Dunny‘s, but he could not acquire!

After making my purchase, living through others’ purchases, and not even wanting to trade anything, I chatted it up with Hance (Centre) and Nic (NTX Hip-Hop).

Nic had some of the “throwback” The Good Child stickers! Check it!

Sorry about the camera blur – Nic is super cool and super fast.

I had a chance to check out the new Centre x New Era caps. ::pause:: I want one of them pretty badly.

All in all, it was a chill evening at the Centre & Atama shops – one I needed. I had a good time checking out the merch, meeting new people (including Illtellect), and bullsh•tting with Hance. By the way, keep a lookout – Centre is getting a new set-up on their floor in the near future that I am stoked about (but, I’m not revealing that). It’d be good to keep your eyes on this boutique in general.

Always coming up. ®

Atama Dunny Azteca II Release

I’ll be at the @shopATAMA Dunny Azteca II Trading/Release Party. Will YOU? If so, youmight have a chance to receive one of those original The Good Child t-shirts (for free, handed to you straight from my hands).

See you out there! I know @DesignByProxy will be there!
