35 Denton

35 Denton is a walkable, 4-day music festival in Denton, TX. Denton itself is a musical hub (thanks to UNT and all that jazz), but when 35 Denton rolls around, acts from all over the world come to play. 35 Denton includes day panels, free shows, big outdoor main stages, indoor venues, food trucks, and  live screen-printing. 35 Denton is like SXSW‘s little sister and happens the weekend before SXSW’s music portion.

This was my first year to be at the festival as a regular patron and not a volunteer. The past two years, I have volunteered as a venue liaison for 35 Denton — once called NX35 (2010) and 35 Conferette (2011). In the past, volunteering meant working with the bands (like Julianna Barwick and Dan Deacon), running around on my bicycle, and getting into shows for “free.”

This year, however, I had a blast taking it easy and being walkie-talkie free. I had a 4-day wristband, but I must be getting old, because I really only took advantage of one full day at the festival. Here’s my (crappy, rained on iPhone) point of view of Saturday at 35 Denton:

UNKO x FFB at Centre

Yesterday, I dropped in at Centre, (my favorite boutique in Dallas, TX), to visit some of the most amazing locals in my city – Unkommon Kolor and Fur Face Boy. Unkommon Kolor and Fur Face Boy have been running their independent brands for about 3-4 years now and yesterday they released their first collaboration together.

It was dope to see the two brands doing it big for our city. It was also really Good hanging out and chatting with FFV (Fur Face Vy), other local brand owners (Sleepy DanHIJ Clothing, Loyal KNG) the Centre crew (mainly Kiddrae254), and local musicians (DJ SoberBlue and Picnictyme). Check out a few iPhone shots from the event, as well as some looks of Centre (and Atama), below:

Kixpo 2011 Recap

I’m sitting here, halfway dressed, (wearing an In4mation “hi” fitted, nevertheless), still giddy about yesterday’s event – Kixpo.

Yesterday, I joined over 100 sneaker and streetwear vendors on the field of the Cowboys Stadium to represent some of the best in premium apparel. The Good Child vendor table was located right next to the center star on the Cowboys field – pretty dope! I was positioned next to Grpfly and Snapsteez – two brands I had been familiar with, but finally had the chance to meet up close and personal. Major shoutouts to Vernon and Avery (of Grpfly) and Cerrance (not Carrots, of Snapsteez).

I met a lot of new people and made a lot of new fans and friends yesterday. I also saw some of my favorite local brands doing their thing and doing it well (Fur Face Boy, Kaught LookingUnkommon Kolor, Fresh Kaufee, Sleepy Dan, HIJ Clothing, Illtellect, Nerdy Fresh, Pink Elly and so many more).

Music was also on point yesterday with DJ Sober (thanks for signing the Birks!) and A.Dd+ (with Brown). And hey – Blue – thanks for stopping by the table, as it’s always a pleasure to chat it up with you. And man, whatever, I’m still listening to Dope right now.

Anyway, enough jabber – enjoy Kixpo from my point of view, and thanks again for stopping by:

Reminder: Kixpo!

REMINDER: Kixpo goes down this Saturday, July 2nd from 4pm-10pm in none other than the shiny new Cowboys Stadium in Dallas, TX. This year will mark the 5 year anniversary for Kixpo, so expect an incredible showing from sneaker collectors, clothing vendors, and artists. I am amped to be a part of this event! You should be, too, if you’re attending, because there will also be a private stadium tour! You can purchase the affordable tickets, here.

I hope to see you out this Saturday! If you’re in attendance, stop by my table (in between Tikkr and Snapsteez – thanks, John!) and say Hello. In the mean time, remember that Series One is on a MEGA-super sale, here, and you can check out new look books here & here. Thank you!

P.S.

You can still cop the two Goody Two Shoes tees at Kixpo this weekend while sizes last!

The Locals – Recap!

I spent my time yesterday with a handful of local brands from around the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Thanks to Philip, Hance, and everybody at Centre, all of us were on major display outside of the shop at Mockingbird Station for The Locals. The event was rain or shine – and although it was incredibly humid, it stayed clear of rain for us!

Some of the brands on display included Fresh Kaufee, Loyal KNG, Unkommon Kolor, HIJ Clothing, Nerdy Fresh, Friends & Anarchists, Matrimoney, Do Celf, Dopey the Bear, and Azimo. A lot of people stopped by the event and even more stuck around for hours! Magnificent Beard dropped in, Vynsie and Jully of We Are 1976 made it, Sleepy Dan was doing his thing, I finally met face-to-face with some great minds I follow on Twitter, and I even ran into two people from my Day Job! The most significant appearances, however, were a few repeat customers and some people I had met a looong time ago at the Johnny Cupcakes stop at We Are 1976! SO RAD! Check out all of these rad people and experiences below!

Better Music than Beaches PREVIEW!

Here’s your REAL sneak peek at The Good Child Better Music than Beaches t-shirt, releasing at Style X (a portion of SXSW) on March 18th. This will be a run of only 25.

We all know the gulf is dirty – no harm in admitting to that – but, there issomething to show off in Texas and that’s the music scene. With events like SXSW, Austin City Limits, and 35 Conferette, Texas cities are on the map for travel destinations. The ”DTX • ATX • SATX • HTX” in the graphic symbolizes each major city in Texas, north to south, that host some of the big music events.

This tee is surf-inspired; the t-shirt body color comes only in khaki with the graphic ink colors inspired by Miami Vice, Grand Theft Auto, and found vintage t-shirts around Austin, TX. This t-shirt is hand-destroyed in areas, so no one tee is alike.

This t-shirt is produced 100% in the USA on 40’s 100% cotton jersey – knitted by Alternative Apparel in Los Angeles and screen printed in the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex.
